Painting a Runway Model in Shorts

Painting a runway model in shorts.

I saw this photo online, and instantly wanted to draw and paint it.

This is an image of a model walking confidently on the runway.

I really like the shorts, tee shirt, and blazer combined into one outfit.

The original photo did not show the model's hair in two afro puffs.

I modified the hairstyle.

I also altered the clothing a bit.

The clothing in the original photo had prints, while I chose to paint solids.

Making small modifications allows me to use my imagination and be creative.

Painting a Runway Model in Shorts - The Process (Video Below)

I began by looking through a bunch of online photos for an image that I would like to sketch.

The runway pose appealed to me because the model is in motion.

Most of the painted image is watercolor, with a little bit of acrylic sprinkled in.

I had the pleasure of painting mismatch colors for the clothes.

I purposely do no try to color coordinate.

Each of the separates are painted with a different bold color.

I used a tiny sponge paintbrush to capture the afro puffs.

I am still learning how to effectively paint with watercolor.

As a result, the paint is a little blotchy.

Here is a short video I made of the painting process.

Painting a Runway Model in Shorts - More Runway Images

I really enjoyed painting this image, and would like to add more runway paintings to my portfolio.

I liked drawing the sway in her walk.

I looked forward to creating a fun hairstyle.

I sought to capture her self-assurance.

I envisioned using bright colors when painting her outfit.

I desired to add the colorful pendant necklace.

And, I wanted to paint the beautiful handbag to bring the entire outfit together.

Painting a Runway Model in Shorts - So Many Styles

There are so many fashion styles on the runway.

They range from high end fashion to fashion on a lower scale.

Within these categories, there are dresses, skirts, blouses, jumpsuits, hats, high heels, and accessories.

There are maxi dresses, and skirts, and midi, and mini dresses and skirts.

There is such a variety of fashion designs to paint.

And I'm happy to be challenged with creating these images.
