Painting a woman in a crop top and skirt.
I love the crop top look.
I think such tops are hip and edgy.
My favorite are the long sleeved, with a high neck.
This one has no sleeves, but it's cute never-the-less.
I started with sketching the image, while looking at an online photo.
I was taking snapshots of the sketch along with the painting process of one of the paintings, so that I could make a short video .
I had my eraser nearby, as I spent a lot of time erasing.
At times, the lines, and angles looked nothing like the photo.
I realized that I was drawing the lines to my own liking, and not to the specifications of the lines in the photo.
Once I focused on following the lines in the photo, the drawing began to take a more realistic form.
The clothing in the original photo looked a lot more dressy than the clothes in the images that I created.
The outfit in my paintings looks like something that could be worn to a picnic, or other outdoor event.
The original image is black and white, and the woman appears to be wearing a gold, glittery top and skirt.
I chose to use an array of colors with a mixture of watercolor, and colored pencil in creating the outfit.
With the exception of one or two paintings where I used colored pencil, the skin was painted with watercolor.
The many different hairstyles were painted with acrylic.
Years ago, I started sharing my artwork on my job.
Some of the people were amazed, and they started calling me an "artist."
I was hesitant to embrace that title, as I felt I still had so much growing to do.
I didn't start calling myself an artist until many years later.
Although my skills have greatly improved over time, I still consider myself to be in a learning phase.
There will always be new techniques to learn, or old skills to refine.
The key is to never stop practicing.
