Painting seated fashion with a mini skirt.
I wanted to try and draw this because it is unlike any image I have ever created.
And, it was indeed very challenging to draw.
I worked on it off and on for five months.
Although I was able to "complete" the drawing, I did not capture all of the fine details that are in the original photo.
I love the pose in the photo.
I like the way the back of the skirt hangs over the stool.
The open back on the blouse is also pretty cool.
The strappy high heeled sandals drew me in as well.
I have a pair similar to these in my own closet.
This photo makes me want to pull them out, and put them on.
Most of the paint is actually leather paint..
Watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil are also sprinkled in.
Each painting is colorful, and I chose two different hairstyles.
I did not take photos of the drawing process, but I did take snapshots of the painting process.
Here is a video showing the art progression of both paintings.
Although the drawing and painting process is a lot of work, it is still fun.
I call it fun work.
I am able to think clearly about a lot of things when I am painting.
And, it helps me to relax.
Years ago, I had a job that was very stressful, and caused me to feel over-stimulated.
My energy was depleted.
At the end of each work day, I couldn't wait to get home and pull out my art supplies.
I needed a couple of hours of quiet time to rejuvenate myself.
Interesting story that happened six months before I finally resigned from my job:
I came home from work, and I was looking over some magnets
I had painted the night before.
I was checking my work to see if any colors needed to be changed, or added.
I picked up one magnet that had a woman on it.
Figuratively, it started to speak to me.
It said, "This is what you are supposed to be doing."
I understood this to mean that I was supposed to be working as an artist.
This was at a point when I hated my job, and it was a chore to go to the office each day.
I wanted to be a full time artist, but I didn't know how.
That was several years ago.
Resigning from that job has been one of the best decisions I ever made.
No regrets.
